Dhamma Mudita Vipassana meditation centre will open its doors for regular courses in May 2025. This is a special occasion to rejoice, as many people will have the opportunity to get to know Vipassana meditation in its original form over the next few years and to develop their personal path with this method. The quietly situated centre grounds, surrounded by woods, offer the best conditions for this.
The Vipassana Meditation trust in Austria had been looking for a suitable property for its own centre for many years. Organizing courses at various rented locations was time-consuming, cost-intensive and usually tied to a narrow time window. In 2017, a suitable building plot was acquired in Rechberg, Upper Austria. An architectural firm drew up plans for the meditation center, which will offer space for up to 160 participants when completed. A construction brochure was produced to inform meditators and interested members of the public about the project. Official planning permission for the first two construction phases was granted in 2020.
Due to the financial situation, it was decided not to wait for the funds to be made available for the final expansion, but to push ahead with the construction project in smaller sections. The highest priority was given to getting the courses up and running as soon as possible. In spring 2024, the specialist companies began construction work on the first accommodation buildings and a temporary kitchen and dining area. After a year of construction, these buildings can now be put into operation. At the same time, the previous “garden hut” was extended and converted into a beautiful meditation hall by volunteers. After this first construction phase, the courses will start in a comparatively small format with up to 60 participants for the time being.
