Make an island unto yourself!
Strive hard and become wise!
Rid of impurities and cleansed of stain,
you shall not come again to birth and decay.

So karohi dīpamattano!;
Khippaṃ vāyama paṇḍito bhava!;
Niddhantamalo anaṅgaṇo,
na punaṃ jātijaraṃ upehisi.

News from Dhamma Mudita
Successful start to regular course operations
On 27 May, the time had finally come – after months of preparation, the first 10-day course in Dhamma Mudita could be held. Until shortly before the start of the anapana session in the hall, many of the Dhamma servers who had travelled to the centre were still working to get the essentials ready in time for the course: the tall grass in the walking areas was quickly mowed to create paths for the meditators, a few privacy screens were erected at least in the most critical areas to separate the sexes and a lot of things were tidied up to make the centre look neat and organised. Reports from the first courses
Here you can read two reports from the first two courses in Dhamma Mudita from the perspective of service givers and meditators. [continue reading here]

The first multi-day children’s course in Austria was a complete success!
The first multi-day course for children and young people at Dhamma Mudita took place from 13 to 15 June 2025. With fifteen children and young people aged 8 – 14 and a similar number of helpers, the course was well attended in bright sunshine. The young participants learnt anapana meditation in the form of 30-minute meditation sessions. [continue reading here]

The next two-day course for children and teens will take place from 26 to 28 September at Dhamma Mudita. Click on the following links to register and to get further information.

Vipassana meeting on 6 und 7 September

The Association for Vipassana Meditation Austria cordially invites all meditators to the next Vipassana meeting on 6 and 7 September 2025, which will take place directly after a 10-day course in Dhamma Mudita. The meeting is a good opportunity to get insight into the organisation of Vipassana courses in Austria. There are many opportunities to help organise the activities of the association and thus provide valuable Dhamma service. During the meeting, the working committees of the association will report on their activities around the emerging centre.

The Vipassana meeting will take place from Saturday 10 am to Sunday afternoon at the Vipassana Centre Dhamma Mudita, Naarntalstraße 2, 4324 Rechberg. Please register using this form and let us know when exactly you will be there. This will make it easier to plan catering and accommodation. You can of course stay overnight at the centre. We look forward to getting to know you!

Opportunities to serve

Now that there are two 10-day courses per month, there is also the opportunity to help on site on metta days in addition to the regular course service. We need two meditators (preferably one woman and one man) to help with the distribution of valuables and one person for the information table. There are no special requirements: the metta-day coordinator will provide on-site training for this service. The service itself starts with a meeting either on day 9 in the evening or on day 10 in the morning at around 7.15 am. Depending on when you arrive, there is also the possibility to join the three daily group meditations in the hall. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

If you live far away, you can also stay overnight in the centre – but please make sure you arrange this in good time beforehand.

Service periods and long-term service

In addition, we always advertise service periods between courses (see course programme) and are particularly happy to welcome long-term servers who would like to support the centre on site for several weeks or months. You can find more information and register for the long-term service here after logging in (username: oldstudent, PW: behappy).

From Myanmar to the world: Part 1 – Overland to India

This one-hour film follows a few Westerners among the thousands, who traveled the world in the early 1970s, “looking for something.” It’s the story of those hippies and seekers who discovered India, S.N. Goenka and the priceless gift of Dhamma. It’s also the story of a remarkable man who brought Vipassana meditation to the world. And finally, it’s a heartfelt tribute to the land and people of India. Subtitles are available in various languages (e.g. Chinese, English, German, Hindi, Korean, and Portuguese). To access them, click on the CC icon on the video player.

You can watch the movie here on pariyatti.org, where many other Dhamma treasures like books, talks and more videos besides many other inspiration can be found. Have a look!
