Who gives, one’s virtues shall increase;
Who is self-curbed, no hatred bears;
Who so is skilled in virtue, evil shuns,
And by the rooting out of lust and hate
And all delusion, comes to be at peace.

Dadato puññaṃ pavaḍḍhati;
Saṃyamato veraṃ na cīyati;
Kusalo ca jahāti pāpakaṃ,

Ready for the first 10-day courses – Dhamma Mudita is in the starting blocks!

From April 2024 to April 2025, Dhamma Mudita was a huge building site where workers from various construction companies were busy at work. In addition, meditators volunteered to work in the existing garden hut during many service periods. The simple wooden hut was converted into a beautiful meditation hall, which now offers space for even more meditators and fulfils all the requirements for this special purpose. Not only physical hard work was done here, but also regular meditation, gradually building up a good Dhamma atmosphere.

Over the past year, many old students have helped to prepare the ground so that Dhamma can take root even more firmly in Austria – this is a great donation of time and effort. The voluntary work under professional supervision saved an estimated 60,000 euros compared to awarding these contracts to commercial companies.

In the meantime, the commercial operations have left Dhamma Mudita and there are always meditators on site. They have already thoroughly cleaned all the rooms, put up the beds and shelves, hung curtains in front of the windows and much more. There were two kitchen service periods in which the new professional equipment was tested with the children’s course menu. There is great enthusiasm for the new kitchen!

The service periods for the final spurt have been well attended so far and have taken place in a really nice Dhamma atmosphere. You can now see how everything is turning out, which increases the motivation and joy of being there. Register here for one of the next service periods.

Financial update

About two weeks ago, we informed you in a special newsletter about the precarious financial situation of the organisation due to the funding gap of 250,000 euros that had arisen as a result of the delay in a promised donation. Thanks to the overwhelming willingness of meditators to help, the acute financial gap was filled so quickly that we are now in a position to pay all outstanding invoices. Dhamma works!

Nevertheless, some important investments are still necessary, which have been cut back or cancelled completely due to the difficult financial situation. It would be wonderful if we could still realise these and we are therefore still grateful for all donations, which will even be doubled by the end of May.

To maintain our short-term solvency, we no longer require 1-year bridging loans at the moment. However, loans from meditators are still a mainstay of our financing, so we are happy to receive further loans with terms of 1 to 5 years or longer, which help us to keep the bank credit as low as possible in order to save financing costs.

All information on loans from meditators can also be found in the brochure created for this purpose on the homepage in the section for old students under the link https://mudita.dhamma.org/en/dana-donations/ (dial in with ‘oldstudent’ and ‘behappy’). The folder ‘Loans from meditators’ can be found at the bottom of the right-hand column of this page via Dana (donations).

However, donations are still the mainstay of the centre’s funding. That is why a meditator has offered to double all donations received by the Vipassana Meditation Association from now until the end of May 2025. So if you would like to help expand the centre with a donation, your dana can have a doubly positive effect.

Dhamma readings

As the centre is about to fulfil all the structural and other requirements for holding 10-day courses and many helping hands are still needed until the start of the course and also between the first courses, we look forward to your visit to Dhamma Mudita during one of the next service periods. We also warmly recommend that you pay a visit to the new library, which has already been set up in Dhamma Mudita in the old kitchen container.
